The Sorrowful Mysteries

The Agony in the Garden
When Christ knelt in the garden
His heart was wrung with pain;
So full of grief and sorrow
His blood ran down like rain.
We should remember His agony
And never sin again.

The Scourging at the Pillar
They scourged our loving Saviour
Upon Good Friday morn.
So cruelly they scourged Him
That all His flesh was torn.
Our Lord was left forlorn.

The Crowning With Thorns
With thorns they crowned our Saviour
To mock Him as  a King.
They gave Him every insult
That cruel hearts could bring,
Though He is Lord of heaven,
God over everything.

The Carrying of the Cross
He took the cross so bravely
And dragged it up the hill.
For us He bore the burden
That was His Father's will.
His blessed Mother's footsteps
Were close beside Him still.

The Crucifixion
Upon the cross of Calvary
There He hung and bled.
While Mary stood there grieving,
His Seven Last Words He said.
Then came the last long hour.
And Christ our Lord was dead.
